FIFA 23 - the Biggest Ever Launch with 10 Million Players

FIFA 23 has proven very successful for publisher EA. It hit record-breaking numbers in its first week, amassing more than 10.3 million players logged in in its first week of release.

Over the years, the popularity of the FIFA 23 series has grown as football has grown globally. Despite its constant flaws, it is played by millions of people every year. This year's edition has even more nostalgic value, as the series will be rebranded next time.

EA revealed the news on October 12, saying that a large number of players marks the biggest release period in the history of the FIFA franchise.

By comparison, last year's FIFA 22 attracted more than 9.1 million players in its first 10 days of launch.

In a press release, Nick Wlodyka, senior vice president of EA Sports FC, said: "The response from our fans has been nothing short of incredible, and we're thrilled that our community is playing with their favorite players and teams across FIFA 23 in record numbers". "With both the Men's and Women's World Cups, and exciting updates to our women's club football content in-game still yet to come, we're just getting started on providing players with the most authentic and immersive experience yet."

EA announced that in July, FIFA's women's club made its debut, while it has been revealed that Chelsea star Sam Cole will be the first woman to appear on the international cover.

FIFA 23 was also the last EA Soccer title to win a FIFA title after the two companies parted ways after nearly 30 years together. Going forward, the series will be called EA Sports FC.

FIFA 23's record-breaking release could also be a pleasant farewell to EA - and perhaps a slightly worrisome farewell to the actual FIFA association - as FIFA 23 was also the last EA football title to win a FIFA title after FIFA reportedly demanded $1 billion every four years just for the name, prompting EA CEO Andrew Wilson to comment that all it got from FIFA was "the front of the box" four letters."
